Services

Masters Athletic Performance has broad service offerings to meet its mission of providing the highest quality, personalized services to Masters athletes, particularly those involved in endurance and ultra-endurance athletics, and those concerned about athletic longevity. We always place a special emphasis on injury reduction or elimination. Injuries, and especially repetitive injuries, is a problem that dogs many endurance athletes. At MAP, we would prefer to help you not get injured in the first place, so we work very hard to develop resilient athletes – those who train for endurance while remaining injury-free.

Coaching Services

We deliver coaching services to active Masters athletes, especially endurance athletes, but also those folk who want to get back in the game. Coaching may be goal or event-oriented, – for example, preparing for an upcoming 100-mile race or Ironman triathlon. Or it may be related to performance goals ¬ or, at its most basic level, fat loss and strength improvement.
Online

MAP offers two standard levels of coaching services delivered online. We currently use TrainingPeaks for both plan delivery and to enable athlete logging of actual workouts. This is a web-based service where athletes may view their prescribed workouts, and also manually enter the results of their workouts. They can also upload data from most sports devices such as heart rate monitors, GPS, etc., or manually. Comments may also be added and are helpful. There is also the opportunity to record nutrition data, sleep and physiological metrics that will help us to track stress, response to training loads and recovery. The subscription to Training Peaks is free to MAP coached athletes, which is a $20 a month value. Daily workouts can be delivered to you by e-mail. We also use Training Peaks to check how you’re doing; we get instant notification when you upload the results of a workout, your comments and questions.

Quarterly plan

Our quarterly plan is available to single-sport athletes or those requiring a strength and conditioning program. Quarterly plans are submitted in 12-week blocks, uploaded to Training Peaks. All plans are developed individually. We do not use pre-prepared training plans. In developing your course of workouts we consider factors such as personal and racing goals, the need for injury reduction, corrective exercise and so on. Contact is on a weekly basis by e-mail.

We recommend our quarterly plan to those athletes who require a lower level of contact and monitoring, but who require a supervised road map to meet a specific goal, to generally improve their fitness or athleticism or who wish to avoid injury. Our quarterly plans are also budget-friendly.

If you would like to start a quarterly plan you may use our Buy Now button to pay the start up fee of $100 and the first twelve weeks of online coaching for $495. This includes a free subscription to Training Peaks which has a value of $60! Upon receipt of your payment we will e-mail you our athletic and health history questionnaires, together with an athlete’s waiver which all coached athletes are required to compete. After reviewing your questionnaires, if we cannot confirm you into our program, for example because of a medical condition that prevents you from training without direct supervision, you will receive an immediate refund of your payment.

Monthly plan

Our monthly plan is available to both multi and single-sport athletes or those requiring a specialized strength and conditioning or corrective exercise program. Monthly plans are submitted in 4-week blocks, uploaded to Training Peaks. All plans are developed individually. We do not use pre-prepared training plans. In developing your course of workouts we focus on your special goals relating to athletic performance, weight loss, injury prevention, or, in some cases, recovery from injury. Contact is generally by e-mail as required. We generally reply to e-mails with 24 hours. We also talk with you as needed if there are specific issues that need to be discussed with regards to your plan. Monthly plans are adjusted as necessary to respond to work, life or personal issues, and to accommodate needed responses to training.

We recommend our monthly plan to those athletes who require a higher level of contact and monitoring, who require a specific yet adaptable road map to meet a specific goal, to improve their sports performance and develop athletic resiliency.

If you would like to start a quarterly plan you may use our Buy Now button to pay the start up fee of $200 and the first four weeks of online coaching for $395. This includes a free subscription to Training Peaks which has a value of $20 a month, an annual training plan outline valued at $250 and, if you can attend our Scottsdale facility, a free Functional Movement Screen™ with a $100 value.

Platinum plans

Our Platinum level plans are for those athletes demanding the highest level of coaching and personal attention. These plans are costed on an individual basis and will generally require you attending a two-day testing and evaluation session in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Platinum plans are also suitable for those who require a knowledgeable coach to work with your physician and other medical specialists who are helping you recover from injury, surgery or a major setback.

Please contact us for a review of your needs and an estimate of the associated costs.

Consulting Services

For those situations where we can bring our skills to bear to resolve an issue for our clients — one that might not require ongoing support – we offer personal consulting services. Projects can be quoted either on an hourly rate, or a fixed project fee. You may use our Buy Now button to purchase a one-hour personal consultation by telephone or Skype for $100.

Annual training outline

For athletes who plan to coach themselves but need guidance on how to plan and periodize their training around their race goals, we offer an annualized training outline. From data you provide us we outline the types of training you should be doing and when over a twelve-month period, recovery and tapering periods. The outline is prepared around prioritized race goals that you send us. The outline is provided in a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. Annual training outlines cost $250.

Functional movement screen™

We believe that every endurance or ultra-endurance athlete should undergo a Functional Movement Screen (FMS) before starting a serious course and at least once annually. The FMS examines fundamental movement patters and identifies dysfunctions that if uncorrected, will likely lead to injury. It is also fair to say that any uncorrected dysfunctional movement patterns and asymmetries that you have today are almost certainly negatively impacting your athletic performance.
A FMS typically takes 10-15 minutes and is performed by Coach Woofie in Scottsdale. Our charge is $100 and includes the test, a copy and discussion of your FMS results.

Speaking

Coach Woofie is available to speak to you groups, camps or other gatherings on matters relating to masters athletic performance, athletic longevity, ultra-endurance sports, hydration issues and performing in extreme environments. Coach Woofie is an accomplished public speaker on topics related to sport, fitness and business.
