About Coach Woofie

Coach Woofie has completed ultramarathons at 50 kilometer, 50-mile and 100-mile distances, triathlons at iron (swim 2.4 miles, cycle 112 miles and run 26.2 miles) half-iron and Olympic distances and World championship orienteering events up to 24 hours in duration.  He helps Masters ultra-endurance athletes train injury-free, stay that way, and successfully compete in extreme ultra-distance and multi-day events.  His own self-coached journey from first marathon to a 100-mile ultramarathon in sixteen months is told in the book “Running Through The Wall”.

A multi-year veteran of the Badwater ultramarathon medical team, Coach Woofie is an expert in optimizing performance in hostile (hot) environments and hydration and electrolyte management.  He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, a certified Functional Movement Specialist and a USA Triathlon Certified Coach.

Coach Woofie helps triathletes and other multisport athletes, ultramarathon runners, orienteers, expedition runners and mountaineers train injury-free, stay that way, and successfully compete in extreme ultra-distance and multi-day events.  He has achieved significant improvements in the performance of so-called “ordinary” athletes, and currently coaches athletes ranging from those competing only with themselves to those competing at a national championship level.

Coach Woofie is one of the few, if not the only coach or athletic performance specialist to focus exclusively on Masters athletes. He mostly works with endurance and ultra-endurance athletes. Woofie continuously studies the latest research and developments in sport focusing on keeping athletes in the game.  Woofie’s coaching stresses athletic longevity and resiliency as well as performance. That is, to physically equip his clients to continue their chosen sporting endeavors to whatever age they chose while remaining injury-free. Woofie is one of the few coaches in the ultra-endurance sport community equipped to coach athletes for their chosen sport and to design effective strength and conditioning programs that improve performance and reduce injuries.  He places great emphasis on individual attention and flexibility to help his athlete clients meet their goals, while also coping with their busy work and home lives.
